Trained as an architect at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, Hugo spent his early career as a BIM Manager for Liverpool — building and managing the information models for large-scale retail developments, and developing a precise, systems-level understanding of how complex buildings are documented, how disciplines are coordinated, and how design decisions compound through every layer of a project.
In 2015 he pivoted into vertical transportation — and brought something the industry in Latin America had never quite seen. Unlike most vertical transportation consultants, who come from equipment manufacturing or mechanical engineering, Hugo approaches the discipline as an architect: trained to think about how buildings are experienced, not just how they function mechanically. He may be the only consultant in the region with that background. Over the following years he built deep expertise in traffic analysis and pedestrian dynamics, becoming a recognized technical authority in a field where rigorous independent consulting had barely existed.
He founded Vertical Analyst to fill that void: a consultancy built on the conviction that elevator and escalator performance is not a technical afterthought — it is a fundamental dimension of how a building feels, functions, and holds its value over time.
Today Hugo works alongside leading architects and developers across Mexico and Latin America, from concept through construction and beyond. His approach is collaborative by nature: he sits at the table as a thinking partner, not just a spec writer — helping design teams make better decisions before they become expensive ones.
